What it is

Barbecoa Holy Grail is a salty, garlicky, peppery and intensely umami all-purpose BBQ rub. Barbecoa founder Tom Bertels is a competition BBQ pitmaster based in Europe, and the Barbecoa BBQ Team has won, among other titles, the European brisket championship and the Belgian brisket and ribs championships. Barbecoa Holy Grail was awarded a silver medal at the 2025 International Flavor Awards in the savoury rubs category. Being sugar-free, this BBQ rub is particularly well suited to steaks, burgers and other beef, as it can be used over high direct heat without any risk of sugar burning. Barbecoa Holy Grail also works beautifully for seasoning fish, prawns, mussels, vegetables, baked potatoes, soups, sauces and stews. Use it as a rub before grilling or smoking, to season low and slow cooks, or as an umami finishing layer on completed dishes.

Our first move with Holy Grail would be on a burger, a steak, grilled mushrooms or baked potatoes. It is a rub with strong umami and saltiness, so there is no need to bury the meat under a thick layer or reach for extra salt. With good beef, a moderate amount is all it takes to bring out the flavour rather than mask it.
