What it is

The legendary Bill Arnold’s Blues Hog needs no introduction — no one else’s products have won as many awards as Blues Hog. As they say about their own products: choice of champions. That still holds true today; this rub took first place in the pork shoulder category at the 2021 World Championship and then won the whole hog category at the 2022 World Championship in Memphis.

Blues Hog Sweet and Savory was created by a couple of people with one goal: to cut down on the kit you haul to competitions. The idea behind this rub was to get rid of the dozens of spice pots lugged everywhere. Everything had to fit in one jar — and there’s nothing more to say, they pulled it off completely. Blues Hog Sweet and Savory has been in our spice cabinet for a couple of years now, coming along to every competition and finding its way into everyday cooking as well. We’d argue it’s the most versatile rub out there. Sweet and savoury, but not particularly spicy. On top of everything else, whether you’re grilling or doing barbecue, this rub leaves a beautiful red colour on the meat. When friends ask for recommendations, this is usually the first jar we put in their hands.
