What it is

Franklin BBQ All Purpose Spice Rub is a versatile Texas-style BBQ rub with a salty, aromatic, lightly sweet and mildly spiced flavour. Franklin Barbecue started in 2009 in Austin from a small BBQ trailer, and its founder Aaron Franklin has won the James Beard Award for Best Chef and is a member of the American Royal Barbecue Hall of Fame. Franklin BBQ All Purpose Spice Rub suits burgers, chicken, turkey, ribs, prawns, white fish, beans and grilled vegetables. This BBQ rub works equally well for quick grilling, oven cooking and low and slow smoking. Franklin BBQ All Purpose Spice Rub makes a solid everyday all-purpose seasoning when you’d rather not reach for separate rubs for every different cut and side. Use it as a dry rub before cooking or as a base layer before adding BBQ sauce and glaze.

We’d reach for this one first on burgers, chicken thighs and grilled vegetables. It’s a good all-purpose jar to put on the table when several completely different things are hitting the grill at once. For ribs, apply the rub in an even layer, let it adhere to the meat before smoking, and add the sauce only towards the end of the cook.
