What it is
Good Shit is a sweet, salty and mildly spicy BBQ rub that works particularly well on pork and chicken. Good Shit is part of the Special Shit Seasonings range and came about as one of the maker’s first rubs following the success of the original Special Shit. Sugar and brown sugar give it a distinctly sweet base, balanced by paprika, salt, pepper, garlic, onion and chilli powder. Good Shit suits pork ribs, pork tenderloin, pork shoulder, chicken wings, chicken thighs and skewers. The maker also recommends it on teriyaki dishes and popcorn, where the sweet and salty character really comes through. The rub helps form an appetising reddish-brown, caramelised crust on meat during grilling or smoking.
GRILLY comments
We’d reach for Good Shit first on pork ribs, pork tenderloin or chicken wings. It’s firmly on the sweeter side of BBQ seasoning, so it’s a good fit if you’re after a caramelised, mildly spicy bark. Since the rub already contains salt, start with a moderate amount and hold back on any extra salt.
