In 2004, a friend convinced Mary and Chase to enter a BBQ competition in their home town. The result was very good indeed — and the two of them have been hooked ever since.

In 2021, Smoke This BBQ took 1st place in the ribs category at The American Royal World Series of Barbecue with a score of 180 — a perfect score. The American Royal is the largest BBQ competition in the world.
